Samuel, son of Samuel was born about 1629, was an engager of Northfield in 1671 and a settler in 1573. As early as 1656 he was a resident of Northampton and in that year, chosen land surveyor and Selectman in 1657. He was again elected land measure in 1659. He married Elizabeth Burt, daughter of Henry Burt, in Springfield, Mass. Nov. 24, 1653. Samuel was killed by the Indians in an attack on Northfield, Sept. 2, 1675. His son Samuel was also severely wounded in the same battle. The father was forty six years old and left a window with children. She married (2) Sept. 26, 1684, Nathaniel Dickinson of Hatfield, Mass.

Children

(-1-) Samuel Born Oct. 3, 1654. A carpenter by trade. He was severely wounded in the same engagement in which his father was killed and during the remainder of his life, carried the bullet in his thigh. He was granted a pension in 1703 of ten pounds for life. He was in service under Capt. Samuel Barnard of Deerfield, from July 24, to Nov. 20, 1722, in Father Ralle's war. After the death of his first wife he married Sarah, daughter of John Lyman, Jan. 3, 1678. She died April 4, 1733 at the age of seventy six and he died Nov. 29, 1734.

(-2-) Joseph Born June 2. 1657, married Nov. 6, 1679, Ruth,daughter of Isaac Sheldon. Joseph died Feb. 16, 1697, and she married (2) Samuel Strong 10/28/98.

(-3-) Benjamin Born July 13, 1660 probably in Northampton and moved with his parents to Northfield in 1671. A grantee in 1682, in the second settlement, and a permanent settler in 1714. He was very prominent in the affairs of the town. He married Mar. 22, 1680, Thankful, daughter of Capt. Johan Taylor of Northampton. She died Apr. 4, 1701 at the age of thirty seven years. He married (2) Mary Baker of Springfield. Mass. He died In 1743.

(-4-) Ebenezer Born Mar. 20, 1663. Deacon in the Church and grantee In 1682. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Jedediah Strong. She died Feb. 17, 1691 and he married (2) Hannah, daughter of Johathan Hunt. Ebenezer died in 1742.

(-5-) Elizabeth born July- 31, 1666. She married Sept. 26, 1684 Thomas Stebbins. He died Apr. 24, 1712 and she married (2) June 16, 1715, John Hannum

(-6-) Eliezer Born Oct. 20, 1668. Was Lieutenant In Father Ralle's war, came to Northfield with his father at the third settlement; Was blacksmith by trade and married Mary Pardee. She died Aug. 16, 1740 and he May 12, 1753. His grandson Azariah, born Mar. 7, 1737, settled in Westminster VT and was captain during the New Hampshire Grant troubles.

(-7-) Hannah Born Feb. 27, 1671. Nothing further on record.

(-8-) Benoni Born Sept. 12, 1675. Ten days after his father was killed by Indians. He married Rebecca, daughter of Benj . Barrett. Benoni settled In Hartford, Conn. and died Aug. 7, 1702.
