WELCOME TO SERVICE SCHOOL COMMAND
You are now commencing your initial period of training which is designed to prepare you for the duties and responsibilities of your rating. This step of your new career is a most important one and this schooling will enable you to assume a position in the military, helping to fulfill the vital mission of the Navy. At Service School Command, for those of you who are entering school directly from recruit training, you will quickly find that you have many more privileges. A word of caution ‑ with these privileges goes responsibility and accountability. You are expected to make the most of this special opportunity; work at it! For those of you entering from the fleet, I am counting on your experience and maturity to help those who may need assistance in adjusting to the rigors of the school routine. This handout has been prepared to answer most of the questions that arise pertaining to your day‑to‑day activities at Service School Command. This guide should be retained as a handy reference. Always have in mind that ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse. The Naval Training Center is divided into three main commands; Administrative Command; Recruit Training Command; and Service School Command. We at Service School Command have the largest population on the Center, averaging approximately 6000 Navy men and women in training every day. With such a large number of people on board, it is extremely important that we all comply with the regulations that have been set forth to ensure the orderly execution of each days activities, and to maintain good order and discipline throughout the Center. SSC mission is to provide you, the student, with the best possible training and to make you a more knowledgeable, skillful and useful member of the Navy team. The single most important aspect of your duty here is performance. Performance as a student can enable you to obtain the maximum benefit from our school so that you can be a better and more productive sailor and individual. Performance should be a key objective throughout your Navy career.
Once again, WELCOME ABOARD.
